One to One Skype - 03rd March

So, on the third of March I had a one to one Skype session with Maria to discuss my progress with module three so far.

I found this session incredibly insightful and useful.  It allowed me to evaluate where I had gone wrong in module two and some progression was made in how to move forward.  I thought I would share the things that came out the discussion that I have found most useful.

Firstly, we discussed my research and my forthcoming literature review.  Unfortunately, in module two I had not included that extensive a review due to thinking that all my research was to be done in module three.  We discussed the fact that this needed to be extended.  I have already read a wealth of books in preparation for this time but it is proving time consuming.  Maria suggested using the index and Google Books to ensure that I was only focusing on the elements that are required for my line of inquiry.  Stupidly, this was not something that I had considered before.  Obviously she said that in an ideal world we would read the whole thing but we do only have 12 weeks in order to complete our research and submit our final piece so it is important that we focus on the essentials.  She kindly showed me how to search for books and read the vital information.  This has saved me a lot of time and has ensured that I have got through my impending pile, much quicker.

She also noted that last time (module two) it was evident that I had done research and was very clear about what I wanted to achieve within my inquiry.  However, it was evident that I had left writing it up until the last minute.  She suggested that I start typing as I go in order to ensure that this time it is not so rushed and that we have plenty of time in order to adapt my written research.

Lastly, we talked about what an artefact was which provided me with some clarity about it.  I do still have some questions regarding it and will confirm what is required next time I speak to her.  She did state that it is a creative way of articulating your practice but not in writing.  It is something in which you explain your research.  I am however unsure whether it has to be computerised so it can be sent off with the final project or whether it is a physical artefact.  She did say that some people do it through video etc.  I will clarify on here when I know.

I hope if anyone has struggled that this will help on the various aspects of the final project, if you are at all confused.
